Money in Tromsø — what you need to know

Norway uses the Norwegian krone (NOK) — not the euro. Cards are accepted almost everywhere in Tromsø: restaurants, supermarkets, taxis, tour operators and even remote mountain huts. You can visit without carrying any cash at all, though a small amount of NOK is handy for the occasional market stall.

Tipping is not expected in Norway. Service charges are already factored into prices, which reflect fair wages. If you enjoyed exceptional service, rounding up is always appreciated but never obligatory.

Example prices in Tromsø: aurora tour ~2 000 NOK (≈ €170), whale-watching trip ~1 690 NOK (≈ €144), dog sledding ~2 950 NOK (≈ €251), beer at a bar 80–120 NOK (≈ €7–10), supermarket dinner for two ~200–300 NOK.
